Employee Benefits

The following benefits information is for all regular, term and job share employees. This summary is furnished as a general information only and is not intended as a complete description of the benefits and exclusions listed in separate pamphlets.

Medical / Dental Insurance

The employee has the opportunity to enroll in either a High Option or Low Option medical plan with Cigna.  Dental coverage is also provided under Cigna. Dependents may also be enrolled. Please contact Human Resources at 303-441-3508 for questions regarding eligibility and to obtain current employee and dependent premiums.

Life Insurance

Employees have the option to enroll in a group life insurance program. The coverage is equal to one and one-half times the employee's annual salary and the County pays 75% of the premium. A description of this policy is available from Human Resources.

Voluntary Group Life Insurance

Employees may purchase additional life insurance at group rates for themselves, spouses and children. Call 303-441-3508 for a "Voluntary Group Life Insurance" brochure.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

The County pays the full premium for long-term disability insurance. The policy provides a monthly benefit of 60% of monthly salary (Maximum benefit is $7,000/mo). Employees must work at least 75% time to be eligible. A long-term disability brochure is available.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program offers a free, confidential counseling and referral service design to help employees and their families handle personal problems. The EAP brochure describes the program.

125 Pretax Benefit Program

This program allows you to use before-tax salary dollars to pay for the County's medical and dental premiums and certain health and dependent care (day care) expenses. The "125 Pretax Benefit Program" booklet gives complete details on the program.

Retirement Plan

The County participates in both Social Security/Medicare and Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA).  County Contributions to PERA is 11.9% and the employees contribution is 8% of their salary.   Employees can also participate in PERA's 401(k) plan up to IRS maximums.  For a comprehensive description of the PERA program, please contact PERA at www.copera.org.

Leave Provisions

Boulder County offers paid vacation, medical leave and holidays. Details of these and other leaves are available from Human Resources.

Training

Supervisory and general employee development training, computer training, safety training and diversity education programs are offered to all County employees.

Credit Union

All County employees are eligible to join the
Boulder Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union
by purchasing one $5.00 share. Further details
are available from the Credit Union Office at 303-441-3065

Bus Passes

Free RTD Eco-Passes are available to all benefit eligible County Employees. These passes are for any scheduled RTD route, including light rail, service to DIA and the "HOP" and "SKIP" circulator buses in Boulder
