Pressing Charges
- The first step in any criminal case is a police report made by
the arresting agency where the crime occurred. For example, the
Boulder Police Department only handles complaints, or crimes, that
occurred within Boulder City limits.
- The local police department is then responsible for the
investigation of the case, and may call upon the DA's office to
verify that charges can actually be pressed, or to approve a
warrant that is being prepared.
- Once the initial investigation has been completed, the report is
then filed with the District Attorney's office where further
investigation may take place, and the original charges may be
amended, or additional charges pressed.
