Transit Enhancement Plan

The Transit Enhancement Plan (TEP) seeks to connect key routes among Boulder County’s cities, towns and work centers. The plan also includes new transit services, such as transportation options for seniors and people with disabilities, along with transit incentives, such as Ecopass discounts for participating employers and neighborhoods.

PROGRAM GOALS AND OVERVIEW

The Transit Enhancement Plan will provide Boulder and Broomfield counties and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) with a comprehensive plan for improving the delivery of transit services such as fixed-route bus service, senior services, vanpools and transportation management.

The plan specifically examines various bus routes, Special Transit, call-n-Ride and access-a-Ride. It also addresses transportation management programs and other transit possibilities.

The project goals are to:

  • Build on the strengths of the existing transit system and optimize existing services

  • Identify new transit services that will fill current gaps in the system, respond to emerging travel patterns and expand the geographic reach and options of transit

  • Increase community awareness of the availability and advantages of using transit instead of driving

  • Develop an implementation plan to identify costs, benefits and potential funding mechanisms

  • Provide a phased set of transit improvements that complement the RTD FasTracks Plan

In addition to input from local transportation experts and the Consortium's Technical Advisory Committee, the enhancement plan incorporates public input culled from a series of open houses held March 14-16 in Lafayette, Boulder and Longmont.

Transit routes being considered for improvement or additional services include: (See Map)

  • State Highway 119 from Boulder through Longmont to I-25

  • State Highway 52 from Boulder to I-25

  • Isabelle Road through Erie to Weld County

  • Arapahoe Road to I-25

  • US 36 from Boulder to Interlocken

  • and a host of existing bus routes including the DASH, JUMP, 205, 206 and 96L.
